Mercury in Aquarius

We are all familiar with dissociation - the experience of disconnecting from certain parts of reality and certain parts of yourself. In many ways, dissociation is an Aquarius phenomenon. It is not that Aquarius doesn’t feel; most of the time, feelings are experienced through mental processes in Aquarius. Thus, Mercury, the planet that rules the mind, feels rather comfortable in the sign of the water bearer. Mercury is comfortable assisting with the dissociation process. In itself, dissociating temporarily is not bad. However, dissociating from life on permanent bases is probably not the best strategy.

What is dissociation? One way to think about it is to separate the mind from the body. Meaning becoming entrapped in your thoughts and forgetting to notice reality as it is now. But sometimes, the mind can disconnect from itself, especially when we encounter uncomfortable thoughts or memories of an experience we would rather forget. The thinking that we want to disconnect from a move into the unconscious or subconscious part of our psyche in order for us to focus on more digestible thoughts.

Sooner or later, the unconscious becomes conscious, and Jung warned us that if it doesn’t, then we are in trouble. That is the nature of the Mercury Cycle. That is one of the manifestations of the Mercury RX. Right now, Mercury is a direct morning star moving through Aquarius. He is comfortable here - it feels like visiting an old friend. However, he can also get lost in pretending. Even though Mercury in Aquarius can herald innovative ideas, for the new to come through, you must face the old. You can’t fit new garments into a closet filled with past seasons catalogue.
