The Nature of Virgo
Anything about Virgo takes the longest to write. I thought about the idea for about a week. I sat down to write it a few times while staring at an empty white screen with that dash thingy blinking at me. It’s probably not very good for my eyes. It’s not very Virgo either. Then, I thought about what I knew about Virgo, and I picked up a guitar that I can’t play. I was learning the chords. It was exhausting. I don’t know how musicians do it. The delicate cushions on my fingertips were on fire. Musicians sacrifice their fingers to the gods of acoustics.
I digress. I was telling you a story. Wait, I am not supposed to tell you I was telling you a story – writer’s number one rule. Or is it not the first rule? Maybe it’s the second in importance. Ah, now this is Virgo. Anxious overthinking about overthinking. Gemini, if this applies to you, remember that you are Mercurial as well. Talk about Mercury, back to the story.
I put the guitar aside and opted out for Spotify. Pop didn’t go down well; most Virgos would probably agree – the late ‘90s and early 2000's rock was tolerable. Why does music matter to Virgo so much? Because they can feel it. Correct, because Virgo is where we feel the music. Maybe there are other channels to auditory experiences, and I won’t debate with other theories here. I want to focus on the hero of the tale.
Gemini is the beginner’s mind and the source of an abundance of quick and fresh ideas. Virgo is where that mental energy is transmitted into the body. Let me explain because I don’t want you to confuse Mercurial energy with direct action, forceful will, and initiative – that is Mars territory.
In an alive and healthy human being, the mind consistently sends signals to the body; these signals and transmutations, aka the messengers of the human constitution, from the mind to the rest of the nervous system, liver, lungs, etc. throughout. Hermes was the messenger of the gods, after all.
Music does not exist in a tangible sense, but we can perceive it through our ears. Or is it not just our ears? Is it our nervous system? The auditory nerve transmits the message of the sound to the brain. Does the brain signal the message to the rest of the body? Do we perceive music with our whole being? I believe so, and I believe in astrology we call that channel of transmutation, Virgo.
