BALSAMIC MOON IN SAGITTARIUS

There is a Buddhist Mantra designed to open our hearts for compassion. Compassion towards the self and other beings. All other being: strangers, people closed to our hearts and ones we think of as enemies. The mantra is “Om Mani Padme Hum”, translated into English as the Jewel in the Lotus. “Om” is the sound of the Universe that connects our mind, body, and soul to the Divine. “Mani” means the jewel of the mind that purifies your speech and clears your mind during the chanting. “Padme” is not the same Padme Amidala, the Queen of Nano from the Star Wars franchise, although this mantra is probably how her name was invented. “Padme” means the lotus in your heart that symbolises our heart centred wisdom. “Hum” is the call to the spirit of enlightenment. This mantra used in meditation reconnects our mind with our heart opening us to possibilities to live a peaceful and more fulfilling life.

This mantra was born of a story about Buddha. One day Buddha was contemplating in front of a  lake filled with mud, dirt, and muck. Despite the filthy scenery Buddha had a big smile on his face. One of his students can up to him and asked why is he smiling at the muddy waters. Buddha pointed at the pristine white lotus floating in the midst of a swampy looking lake, “see that Padme, young Padawan (he probably used the word disciple but who is to tell, it was so long ago) the Lotus 🪷 flower blooms and flourishes despite her surroundings. That’s why I smile, Padawan.” Something to think about, right?
