Grieving Old Dreams

And if you feel cynical because I used the word, heart, maybe, you should check yourself. You might be hurting. Beyond that, the hurt might be a deep, deep grief. Release yourself.

“Grieve your old dreams, and it’s from their ashes that new ones arise.”

The Phoenix Concept

You see, grief is a shitty subject. No one wants to talk about it. No one wants to think about it. The conundrum is that this is the exact problem we are facing. Grief is being tucked away, nourished, cherished as if it’s a newborn child. The real newborn, however, gets only a few glances. Perhaps, a few pats on the back if you are brave enough. Holding the baby is an inconceivable thought.

Why, do you ask? Because loving the newborn would mean that there is a possibility of losing yet another thing we love.

That can’t happen.

How would you deal with new loss if you haven’t dealt with your old wounds?

You wouldn’t know what to do.

So, you just don’t choose love. And I’m not just talking about cuddling babies here. How can you choose a love that you truly desire? Or a passion project that can be a risky move? Or moving to a new country, etc., etc., etc. Anything that requires the bravery to allow your heart to be vulnerable if your heart is still scared.

And if you feel cynical because I used the word, heart, maybe, you should check yourself. You might be hurting. Beyond that, the hurt might be a deep, deep grief. Release yourself of it.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate.”

  • Carl Jung.

Grieve your old dreams — those ancient heartbreaks. Lick your wounds. You cannot move on anywhere until you do. Do not allow your unconscious mind to navigate your thoughts and feelings: the last two will direct your actions and decision-making.

Many people grieve in secret. A secret, some keep even from themselves. It’s good to start opening up to yourself. It’s not a bad thing to befriend YOU.

What could you be grieving? A lost youth? A sports career? A love who betrayed you? The lack of love in your home?

Let yourself grieve.

Let yourself feel.

Let yourself curse Life, and God, and the Universe for a moment.

Ask Why?

The Universe answers. You’ll know. If you are honest with yourself, you’ll know. Sometimes, the answer is because of life. Sometimes, the answer is because there is something better for you out there. Sometimes, it’s a lesson.

Going through it is the only way. Otherwise, you are stuck.

There is a pot of gold on the other side of an honest and open conversation with yourself
